But the real story here is the Chinese lacquer. Dupont has been working with natural lacquer sourced from the Rhus Verniciflua tree since the 1950s, in collaboration with master artisans from the East. It’s an ultra-laborious process: applied by hand, layer after layer, then polished to a mirror shine. And unlike synthetic enamel, this stuff ages like fine wine. It deepens, darkens, and never loses its soul.
These lacquer pieces are part of the same tradition that gave us their iconic lighters and pens. This watch ? It’s the wrist-sized version of that philosophy.
